Some of Our Members

Pat Young
I have been in choirs all of my life-school, church and community choirs. When my last choir ended, I tried another 3 but none of them stretched me like Kathryn’s Soul Choir and Kathryn. I am so happy to have a voice again. I love socialising with other members, we have a great teacher and the environment is very happy and encouraging!

Pat is very experienced at singing harmonies and she can always be found helping and encouraging her ladies in the soprano section!

Gordon Young
I have been in a choir for a long time and I needed to find another one. I looked around and found this one! I really like the friendships and singing with others. I enjoy singing ‘Lean on Me’ the best because of the message-everybody needs a friend.

Dave Hagan
I am a semi retired IT professional who loves singing and always has a desire to improve. I was looking for a choir that wasn’t frustrating and Soul Choir came highly recommended. I have enjoyed learning harmonies, persistence and practising. It has really developed my confidence. The choir is friendly, encouraging and lots of fun! I loved singing ‘Winter Wonderland’ because it is a swinging, happy song!

Dave can regularly be found leading his fellow tenors and singing the odd solo in Kathryn’s Soul Choir.

Susan
I joined Soul Choir when I heard you on BBC Radio Newcastle with Anna Forster. You sounded like lovely people and I love soul music. I really enjoyed the sessions I attended with you and the people at the choir were very friendly and warm!

Elinor
I joined Soul Choir to get batter at singing harmonies as well as gaining the confidence to sing in front of other people. I used to mainly sing in my bedroom and now I have gained so much confidence, I am studying Music at university in September. I really enjoy singing in harmony with others and seeing our progress with songs each week. I loved singing ‘Winter Wonderland’ at Christmas because we sang it so well and the song felt very complete.

Elinor can often be found contributing harmonies that she’s been creating and collaborating with the ladies in the Mezzo Soprano section.

Peter
I am a semi retired lawyer and I joined Soul Choir to do something completely different which I had thought about for a long time but never got round to doing it. I have learned to listen very carefully and sing in tune with others. Soul Choir is full of positive folks who enjoy singing and who want to do their best. We are a varied, interesting bunch who are always friendly. I like to sing the song ‘Just my Imagination’ because it’s a classic.

Peter is often the first person people meet at Kathryn’s Soul Choir as he kindly greets our new members at reception and then shows them to the studio. Thanks Peter!

Donna
I am a 45 year old mother of three sons and a wife. I work for an airline at Newcastle airport and I am extremely bubbly and sociable with a voice bigger than me! I have loved singing and music since I was so young and I come from a very musical, loving and happy family. I have really enjoyed harmonising and learning the timing of songs up to now and I can’t wait to see where we take things in the future. I have really enjoyed singing ‘Nowhere to Run’ because it’s so fun and such a classic.
